_Objectives

 Educating Architects on Strategies

to Design for children with Autism.

_Problem

 Autism is a developmental disorder

 thaT affects communication and learning

 skills, social interaction, the

senses and behavior. The reality is the

number of children diagnosed with autism

 is rising. Every disability but

autism has been considered in the ADA

 standards for inclusive design. An

increase in autistic cases have been

linked to our everyday interactions with

 the environment.

_Outcome

By revising the ADA handbook, creating

 a catalog, environmental graphics and

 wayfinding signage to address

inclusive strategies, the goal is for

architects to bring hope and support.

 These opportunities aim to provide

a clearer outlook and to provide information

imperative for the architect to develop

 realistic functional spaces.

FORM IS LESS THAN FUNCTION WHEN IT COMES TO AUTISM WITH ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN.  ARCHITECTURE  AS A PROFESSION, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING ENVIRONMENTS THAT ACCOMMODATE THE NEEDS OF ALL TYPES OF USERS.
